I appreciate them!

I guess I'll update on myself while I'm here. I still need to draw that horse, but I don't really feel like drawing at all. I feel like writing and planning for writing, so I'm going with it. These things go in cycles, once I get sick of writing I'll draw again. I'm in this magical moment where all my planning and detailing and outlining is shaping the story, (that admittedly hasn't been successfully drafted yet), and I'm finally seeing what it is I have here. And I like it. I have learned I'm not the sort who can just sit down and write... well I can, but not big large projects. I need some direction, or I need to know exactly what's going to happen or I get stuck, afraid I'll ruin what I've done. So this time I'm keeping journals and writing down every little thought or symbolism idea I have, fixing my plot-holes and planning the terrain and making sure it all works ahead of time. I hate writing some big giant thing and finding out it is unusable. It puts me in a sour mood and I stop writing for really long stretches. Kudos for those who can write whatever and it all make sense, but that isn't me. And I used to think outlining and journals were for losers. Well past me, you're a loser too, and shuddup, the planning is really really fun if you get into it.

I think becoming a successful writer is in part figuring out what kind of writer you are. I don't think there's a wrong way to go about it really, but there is a wrong way for YOU to go about it. If it's not a short story, ( and I can keep all the ideas in my head at once), I need to plan everything out to the nth degree. I think I'm just happy to finally figure that out. And I need to keep a schedule and make myself feel bad about it. So starting this Monday I have to start the draft again and have finished up all the preliminaries. I have to remind myself that draft one is going to suck, and to just get it all down. But knowing that I have a plan makes that all go down smoother.

My resolution this year was to finish this book and get it in a state ready to shop to agents. I have two months to do draft one. So if I'm not on much or don't respond terribly often it's because I'm trying to work. Wish me luck!
