"In the beginning God, a perfect being, created man- and that was perfect till man botched it up. Then man created fonts which were... something O.o. Being imperfect man could not create perfection... so we get fonts such as Party, Curly, Arial, Papyrus, and Comic Sans. Thus sayeth the Furrama: Not all fonts are created equal."
Some of you may know that I am a graphic design major. To be honest I didn't even know what it was when I chose it, I just wanted to make pretty pictures with the computer and stuff. (I figured out what it was about two years in and was too lazy to change it then.)
I didn't even know what a font was until I asked in class one day, (and all the students looked at me like I was a tard.) I never really noticed on a conscious level that letters looked different sometimes, and I never knew there was a name for it. But over the next few semesters I had the idea of fonts pounded into my noggin. And I have come to you, the masses, that through all my learning I can sum it up in these words: DO NOT EVER USE COMIC SANS OR PAPYRUS FOR ANY RAISINS!!!
Why? Because they are over used, and poor quality. Comic Sans has become the 'fun' font for anything you don't want in Arial or TimesNewRoman- and it's NOT A GOOD COMIC FONT PEOPLE, GET OVER IT! Papyrus has become the artist/old/Bible/earthy font, (I can't tell you how many bad logos use it). There are other overused ones such as Curly and Party, but those aren't used as much as those two.
Fonts fall in one of 3 categories: good, bad, or ugly. Good fonts don't only have to be good looking, but they have to be easily read and good for the purpose that they are to be used for. Bad fonts are bad in most every circumstance, and sadly, these are the fonts most computers come with. Ugly... well... are just ugly.
Now after all of this you might ask- why do I use Spastic Nerfbag of all fonts for this comic? Because after all my schooling I like to rebel a bit. And I like the name. (that's a bad reason, but that's what I'm going with). If this comic wasn't just for fun you would see me paying through the nose for an actual good font. Or I would make a font with my own handwriting... if I knew how.

OMG THIS COMIC TOOK ME FOREVER!!! sorta. Except for this one all the other ones were 1 shots, done in the same day. This one was 3 days of work. Between drawing for TOB and kNOw Life the characters are actually harder to do for kNOw Life. No joke. (the bg's are what get me for TOB... stupid trees.)
There are a lot of themes that run through the stock gallery many people have similar ideas but they pull them off in different ways. In this series of newsletters we will look at similar ideas but different outcomes.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
