Don't mind me. I wanted to draw a quicky of two of my main-ish novel characters, in part because I just wanted to and in part because I want to get back into the mindset of writing the thing. So here's Terra again, (who is too fun to draw), and the latest iteration of the gray two tailed feathered cattish thing, who finally has a real name, (Ari) and actual character to go with it.
He was human once, and his human mind has recently come back to him. She's a wolf-dog who needs him in order to win favor in a new wolf pack, who is looking for creatures like Ari for unknown reasons. On a normal day she'd rather eat him or maul him, seeing him as little more than prey, and is most defiantly not and never is "that guardian wolf buddy". She won't take his emotional tantrums for anything, even if she does need him. Realizing after a particular confrontation with the red wolf-dog that maybe pain and death is still something to avoid, he quickly and quietly falls into line.
Let's just say that he doesn't make it out of that confrontation in one piece. And that he doesn't taste very good.
She is not a villain. He is not the hero. Neither are either. But as both of them move forward the chain of events move forward, and great and terrible things happen. One could ask the question: Was theirs a chance meeting, or a hand moving?
Not even I am sure.
Here's another The Tree of Babylon pic I did a bit back:
